AVL Biz Weekly — Jul 1–7: Anti-Networking Coffee, Spoon at the Peel & the 9-Word Text That Brings Leads Back

I’m hosting a no-BS coffee in Fletcher Wednesday morning, Spoon hits the Orange Peel Sunday night, and there's one text you should send to every lead that ghosted you

Welcome to AVL BIZ Weekly—your local cheat sheet for what’s happening in Asheville’s small business + creative scenes.

Each week: hand-picked events, marketing ideas that actually work, and a little local flavor to keep things fun.

My name's Jason and I'm writing this (connect with me here).

Hey friends,

The business calendar is on vacation this week — it's the Fourth, most of WNC is pointed toward the river, and no one's scheduling a lunch-and-learn until people come back from the lake/beach/uncle Gary’s mansion. But the music and event calendar are full. of Montreal plays the Grey Eagle Friday. Pearl Jam tribute is across town at the Orange Peel that same night. Luminere at Biltmore turns the estate into a nighttime light installation Thursday through Saturday if you've got guests in town who want something different.

South Slope throws a free Independence Day block party Saturday — food trucks, live music, Ultimate Air Dogs, fireworks at 9:30.

Come see me Wednesday morning first.

Let's get into it.

💡 Marketing Quickies

Brought to you by Pixelated Stories

Websites + Follow-Up Systems for Home & Professional Service Businesses | PixelatedStories.net

Most contractors and professional service businesses lose the same sale twice: once when the lead goes quiet, and again when they assume "quiet" means "no."

1. The 9-word text

Send this to any lead who ghosted after an estimate: "Are you still looking to get [X] done?" No explanation, no reminder of who you are, no apology for following up. It works because it's a simple question that's easy to answer. Most people who don't respond aren't saying no — they're procrastinating.

2. Most businesses stop one follow-up too early

80% of sales take five or more contacts. Contractors and professional service businesses stop at one or two. The leads that didn't book aren't necessarily shopping somewhere else — they're stalled, and the business that follows up consistently wins by default. The Show Up and Follow Up System includes a 1-year follow-up sequence that does this automatically, so old leads hear from you without you thinking about it.

3. Replace "let me know" with a decision prompt

"Feel free to reach out when you're ready" puts all the friction on the prospect. End every proposal and follow-up with a specific question instead: "Does Thursday at 10am work?" or "Want me to send a revised scope first?" One decision is easier than an open invitation.Want missed-call text-back, SMS confirmations, website chat, a unified inbox, and a follow-up system that keeps working after you close the laptop?
