AVL Biz Weekly: Week of Nov 26: The “Is Anyone Working?” Edition

A short week, a full plate, and a few local wins you don’t want to miss.

Welcome to AVL BIZ Weekly—your local cheat sheet for what’s happening in Asheville’s small business + creative scenes.

Each week: hand-picked events, marketing ideas that actually work, and a little local flavor to keep things fun.

My name's Jason and I'm writing this (connect with me here).

Hey friends,

Thanksgiving week is basically Asheville’s version of a snow day. Half the city is “working from home,” the other half is stress-brining a turkey, and everyone’s pretending the calendar still matters.

It’s not the best week to hustle. But it is a great moment to reach out, offer a little thanks, and reconnect with the people who’ve helped you this year: clients, collaborators, neighbors, the bartender who knows your order with just a slight head nod. A simple text goes a long way when everyone’s feeling a little softer around the edges.

We’re keeping this issue light (unlike the heavy burden you carry for not responding to Uncle Joe’s wacko conspiracy theories): a few local goings-on, some easy wins for your business before you check out, and a handful of things to make the week feel a little fuller.

Enjoy the calm, the chaos, and alllllllll the carbs.

💡 Marketing Quickies

  1. Fix Your “Above the Fold”

Open your homepage on your phone. If a stranger can’t tell what you do, who it’s for, and what to do next within 3 seconds, rewrite that top section. Clarity prints money.

  2. Post a “Behind-the-Scenes” Clip Today

Doesn’t matter if it’s messy. People trust what they can see. A 15-second process clip often outperforms polished promo because it feels real.

  3. Send a 3-Sentence Check-In to Past Customers

    Something like:

“Hey! Just checking in, how’s everything holding up? Anything I can help with this month?”

This tiny nudge revives quiet leads and keeps you top of mind.

  4. Turn Your Best Testimonial Into a Graphic

Use Canva’s “quote” template, drop in your customer’s words, add your brand colors, and boom, you’ve got evergreen social proof you can post everywhere.

  5. Add a “Top 3 Most Popular Services” Section

People love shortcuts. Highlighting your most-booked options reduces decision friction and increases conversions. Keep it simple and link each one to a booking or inquiry page.
